As Marcela De Vivo mentioned in her recent guest article “What Does Google Authorship Mean and How Do I Claim Google Authorship“, Google Authorship is something that we all have the ability to claim.

“It’s Google’s way of identifying the author of a piece of content to factor it as a signal of content quality.” ~ Brian Gardner, CopyBlogger

I have explained to our authors at Life As A Human how to do this. Some of them had trouble finding the screens in Google+. I did too at first! So, I have created a bunch of screen shots that should make this pretty easy for you. If you are using the StudioPress Genesis Framework, just follow these steps. If you are using All In One SEO or some other SEO plugin, they ‘should’ have similar options as shown in Step 3.

Here we go!

Step 1

Surf to your G+ account.

Make note of your G+ profile address as you will need it in step 3.

It will look something like this: https://plus.google.com/109409019427832791015

Step 2

Click the little down arrow (top right) which will open this window. Now click account.

Click Edit Your Profile

Scroll down and find the links section. Click Edit

Google Plus Screen Shot 3

In the contributor section, click Add Custom Link

Google Plus Screen Shot 4

Enter your information as below but use your website name and URL and then click save.

This part is now done!

Step 3

At your site, surf to Dashboard / Users/ Your Profile

Scroll down and find the Google+ field and enter your G+ profile address.

Scroll down and click Update Profile (button not shown here).

Add G+ Profile To WordPress User Settings

Now, surf to Dashboard / Genesis / SEO Settings

Be sure your name is selected as the Homepage Author.

Scroll down and click Save Settings (button not shown here).

Add G+ Profile To Genesis SEO Settings

That’s it! It can take a while (weeks or more) for Google to start showing you as the author in search results but it will be worth it.

Oh wait … one more step!

Step 4

Remember to add me to your circles ;-)
